Sunday Notes – April 1, 2012

v This week’s Sermon: Mark 11:1-11. This Sunday is Palm Sunday. This week’s sermon is Palm or Passion.

  1. We are gathering people interested in being on a rummage sale committee for a brief meeting between services at 9:15 AM.
  2. The Easter schedule is as follows &ndash Palm Sunday weekend: 5pm Saturday, 8 AM, 10 AM, and 11:45 AM Sunday; Tuesday Chrismal mass at 11 AM at the cathedral in Milwaukee; Maundy Thursday: 7 PM; Good Friday: 12 PM, and 7 PM at Good Shepherd; Holy Saturday: 11 AM at Haack’s Tendercare, and Easter Vigil at 7 PM; Easter Sunday: 8 AM, 10 AM, and 11:45 AM (Easter Egg hunt after 10am).
  3. We are gathering quick breads for giving to visiting families. Please see Reitha Johnson or Shirley Forester if interested in baking some bread.
  4. There are envelopes in back to give a gift in honor of someone for Easter. Please put the info on the envelope and drop it in the offering plate. This is the last weekend to fill out an envelope.
  5. The annual Altar Guild trip is May 9, seating is limited. Information is available in the narthex.
  6. We changed the door code please call Father Mike at 608-354-2866 and we will give you the new code.
  7. We will have a Building and Grounds Clean-up Day on May 6, lunch will be served. We will start after the 10 AM service.
  8. Please check your information for the new parish directory in the narthex.
  9. Our parish rummage sale is May 5th. Please start gathering your treasure.

Sunday Notes – March 11, 2012

This week’s Sermon:  John 2:13-22.  This Sunday is the third Sunday of Lent. This week we look at where is the new temple that the Spirit of God dwells in.

  1. The Spring Foundations Class for new comers and members continues this Sunday 1pm at church. We will  be looking at church music:  how we use it, pick it, and how it contributes to the complete liturgy.
  2. We will be having Lenten Soup and Bread at 5:15pm on the Wednesdays of lent. We will be sharing Lenten reflections from Episcopal relief and development. The sign up to bring Soup and Bread is in the Narthex.
  3. We will be having Stations of the Cross on Fridays in lent at 7pm at church.
  4. The 1st  Holy communion class is this Wednesday from 4 to 5 and the following Wednesday in March.
  5. We are in need of someone who could come and take minutes at our Bishop’s committee meeting.  If a group of persons could come once in a while that would be a great help.  See Fr. Mike or Bob Weirough.  The next meeting is Monday 3/12 at 6pm.
  6. The last cooking class will be on this Sunday at 9:15am. They will be doing 10 am coffee hour.  All are welcome.
  7. We have a church hall meeting this Sunday on 3/11 at 11:30am.
  8. On March 24, at the last Saturday evening liturgy before Holy Week, we will be having a liturgy with healing and after the service there will be individual confession available.
  9. Wednesday March 21 is the 1st monthly 11 am liturgy with lunch to follow. This liturgy will be held every month on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
  10. The info day on community of Hope at St.  Luke’s in on March 17th.
  11. Ladies Night Out is Thursday March 22nd at 7pm at Erin Snug.
  12. The mentoring class will meet on Wednesday 3/21 at 5pm.

This week’s Sermon: Mark 8:31-38 This Sunday is the Second Sunday of Lent. This week we look at what it means to deny ourselves and follow Christ.

  1. The spring Foundations Class for new comers and members continues this Sunday at 3:30. We will meet at church and go to Grace for the St. Francis House liturgy.
  2. We will be having Lenten soup and bread at 5:15pm on every Wednesday of lent. We will be sharing Lenten reflections form Episcopal relief and development. Sign up to bring Soup and Bread is in the Narthex.
  3. We will be having Stations of the Cross on Fridays in lent at 7pm at church.
  4. There is a sign up for those interested in Holy communion classes in March.
  5. We are in need of someone who could come and take minutes at our Bishop’s committee meeting. If a group of persons could come once in a while that would be a great help. See Fr. Mike or Bob Weirough. The next meeting is Monday 3/12 at 6pm.
  6. The last cooking class will be on March 11th Deacon Regs between the 8:00 AM in 10:00 AM services.
  7. We will be having a church hall meeting on Match 11th at 11:15am.

    This week we look at change and what it means to change.
  2. The spring Foundations Class for new comers and members continues this Sunday at 1pm. Topic: A Brief History of the Anglican/Episcopal Church
  3. We will be having Lenten soup and bread at 5:15pm on the Wednesdays of lent. We will be sharing Lenten reflections for Episcopal relief and development. The sign up to bring Soup and Bread is in the Narthex.
  4. We will be having Stations of the Cross on Fridays in lent at 7pm at church.
  5. There is a sign up for those interested in Holy communion classes in March.
  6. There is  a sign up to help bring the meal to St. Francis House community next Sunday, March 4th.
  7. We are in need of someone who could come and take minutes at our Bishop’s committee meeting.  If a group of persons could come once in a while that would be a great help. See Fr. Mike or Bob Weirough. The next meeting is Monday March 12th at 6pm.
  8. The last cooking class will be on Sunday March 11th.
  9. We will be having a church hall meeting on Sunday March 11th at 11:30 am.

CHOIR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Jake is, as always, interested in growing the choir here at Good Shepherd. Please email him at jakob.aebly@gmail.com or speak with him directly in church if you’re interested. For now, practices would be from 9:15-9:45 on Sunday mornings, and we’d be learning one special piece per month. Commitment is minimal! Practices will begin as soon as there are 5 or more
interested parties.

Jake will also be available to teach piano and/or voice lessons at Good Shepherd starting in March. Currently he will be there Tuesday morning/early afternoon, although if you’re interested times could be flexible. Please contact him at jakob.aebly@gmail.com for more information about rates and if you are interested in scheduling a time. Lessons are available to ALL ages and experience levels!

Sunday Notes – December 4, 2011

  1. Foundations class meets next Sunday December 4th at 5pm. Topic: The sacramental system and prayer. All are welcome.
  2. There is a Christian concert at Door Creek on Wednesday December 7th. The concert is Simple Gifts with Billy McLaughlin. Tickets are $20 adult, $10 student and can be purchased by calling 608-213-7209 or e-mailing ylsunprairie@gmail.com.
  3. Elves Nite In Vendor Fair in at Good Shepherd is this Sunday December 4th from 1:00-4:00 PM. Tell and bring your friends.
  4. Culver’s calendars are $5 and order forms for Culver’s scrip are available at church. Remember scrip for your holiday gift giving.
  5. There will be a Christmas pageant practice after the 10 am service on December 11th.
  6. Bishop Miller will be here on December 18th at 8am and 10 am for his visitation. We will also have our Christmas pageant that day at 10 am service.
  7. Our Christmas schedule is:
    • December 23 – Eve of Christmas Eve: 7 PM
    • December 24 – Christmas Eve: 5 PM, 8:30 PM, and 12 AM
    • December 25 – 8 AM and 10 AM
    • December 31 – New Year Eve: 5 PM
    • January 1 – New Years Day: 8 AM and 10 AM
